Basic Specialty Training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology

The first step in training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology is the completion of the Basic Specialty Training programme in Obstetrics & Gynaecology or equivalent.

The recruitment and selection process for Basic Specialist Training (BST) opens in December every year. The deadline to submit an application for BST is normally mid January, with interviews for shortlisted candidates taking place in February and March.

Higher Specialist Training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Following completion of the Basic Specialty Training Programme in Obstetrics & Gynaecology doctors who wish to specialise in Obstetrics & Gynaecology may apply for the Higher Specialist Training Programme.

The recruitment and selection process for Higher Specialist Training (HST) opens in November every year. The deadline to submit an application for HST is normally the last working day in November, with interviews for shortlisted candidates taking place the following February and March. As there are a limited number of places in HST, entry to each specialty is competitive
