Passing the MRCPI in Obstetrics & Gynaecology is an essential requirement for a certificate of completion of Basic Specialist Training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. It is also an entry requirement for Higher Specialist Training and a requirement for doctors who want to become Members of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.
There are two components to the MRCPI in Obstetrics & Gynaecology:
- MRCPI Part II Obstetrics & Gynaecology Written
- MRCPI Part II Obstetrics & Gynaecology OSCE/Clinical
Before you can sit the MRCPI Part II Obstetrics & Gynaecology Written examination you must meet the entry requirements listed on our website. These entry requirements include having passed one of the following examinations:
- MRCPI Part I (General Medicine or Paediatrics)
- MRCOG Part I (exemption from MRCOG Part 1 is not accepted)
- MRACOG (Australia)
- MRNZCOG (New Zealand)
- FCOG (SA)
- FCPS (O&G) (Pakistan)
- MRANZCOG
- MMed (O&G) (Malaysia)
While you can apply to sit the MRCPI Part II Obstetrics & Gynaecology Written examination if you have passed the MRCPI Part I in General Medicine or Paediatrics, we find that most exam candidates based in Ireland prefer to focus on the MRCOG Part I, as it relates to the specialty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. (We do not currently offer MRCPI Part I in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.)
Remember…
- You can sit the MRCPI Part II Obstetrics & Gynaecology Written after completing two years of post-registration training in recognised posts (i.e. when you start your first Registrar post)
- You must pass the MRCPI Part II Obstetrics & Gynaecology Written before you can apply for the MRCPI Part II Obstetrics & Gynaecology OSCE/Clinical exam
